WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE no2
2021 | 48” x 48” | Pencil, colored-pencil, rope on wood panel
WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE no1 and no2 were created in quick succession and were the first translation onto wood panels after the completion of the series on paper. The title reflects a judgmental voice about Tia’s choice to go directly to this large-scale format - almost like she was not allowed to make such a big leap. It also asks a simpler question "Who am I?" that correlates to personal and ancestral inquiries into the forces that make her who she is. Stylistically, the two differ in a way that combines subconscious asking & decision-making, with more personalized expressions of the geometry that is used to create these pill-shaped portraits. No.2 reflects an energy that she cannot fully account for or explain.
SAMI THREADS no1
2021 | 16” x 12” | Pencil, colored-pencil, thread on wood panel
This piece is very similar to a piece on paper from the later part of the 100 Day Project after Tia began following her Sami bloodlines. The primary colors: red, blue, yellow, and green are dominant colors in the Sami handicraft (clothing and woven details on garments) and are symbolic of natural elements and values on the official flag of Sapmi, the land of the Sami people.
